Asagai
Asagai has some very pointed things to say to Berneatha about her hair and her "assimilationism". Do you agree or disagree with him? Specifically do you agree with his criticisms of Berneatha's hair? Do you agree that she is an assimilationist?
I do agree that Berneatha is a assimilationist, but I don't think he was right to criticize her hair. People can do whatever they want with their hair. Every is an assimilationist deep down, even if it's a little bit.
I dissagree. She was raised like that. Her hair was most likely done like that since she was little. She wasn't trying to conform into being an american. She IS an american. She grew up on american customs, not African/ Nigerian customs. Befor him i don't think she even thought the slightest bit about it.
I agree with Asagai because she is trying to change her look to fit in more. He's trying to say that people from Africa, they love their hair and would never change it to blend in with the crowd.
I don't agree with him. I say she was borned like that. She is not used to African styles because she is used to the American styles. I also don't agree that she is an assimilationist.
no i cant agree with asagai about berneatha assimilationism because i guess she is not assimilating another culture but she is just changing her appearance and she has the right to do so.
he said her hair was mutilated hair and i cant agree with his criticism because it's her right to change her body parts. No because she can be whoever she wants to be i guess.
I would agree. She is trying to adapt to like the other people there. He was just saying that and she took it a different way. I agree that she sort of is an assimilationist.
I don't agree with Asagai about Berneatha's hair and assimilaton. Differet people have different feel about how they look. I don't agree that she is an assimilationist because she just do what she feels is good for her, not being force or trying to act in that way.
I do not agree with asagai's rude comments toward Bearneathea's hair because he doesn't understand the customs in chicago than it is in africa. She had always been the way that she is even before asagai came along to critisize her and her hair.
I agree with Asagi that Berneatha is assimilating. I think that Berneatha is trying to be like the other people in Chicago. He was making a suggestion to her and she took it so offensively. I think she is an assismilationist.
i do not agree with Asagai because i think that it is not right to set apart the american hairstyle, and african american hairstyle. i think that Berneatha is not a assimilationist. i think that she just wants that particular hairstyle, and thats how she grew up.
I do not agree with Asagai about her hair because it seems like a racial comment. I don't think it's right to differentiate the hairstyles between black hair and American hair. I don't agree with Asagai of Berneatha being a assimilationist. She was use to that, and that's how she grew up.
